Another superb night at Craven Park saw the magnificent Robins go clear at the top of Super League.
Another game, another victory. Rovers are no respectors of reputations, and it was the star studded Leeds Rhinos that this time left Craven Park with their tails between their legs.
Boosted by last Friday night's superb result at the JJB the Reds hit the ground running, it has to be said though that it was Leeds that settled the quicker of the 2 sides. Some great K.R defence however kept the Rhinos at bay and indeed through a penalty the home side went 2 nil up, Gareth Morton hitting the first of what was to be a 100% 5 out of 5 night.
Rovers joy turned slightly sour when Ashley Gibson went in for the first try of the match and when Sinfield added the 2 from the touchline it was game on!
More tremendous K.R defence, noticably one try saver from the ever improving Ben Cockayne staved of an eager looking loiners outfit, and on the back of this defence Rovers were building their own platforms.
It was a sensational play by the Ginger wizard and club captain James Webster, gathering his own chip through to score to the left of the posts, in turn sending Craven Park into a frenzy!! And when the extras were added Rovers were in front 8-6.
Looking confident K.R pushed forward hoping to extend the lead before the half time hooter though against the run of play Leeds again stole the
lead, the Rhinos Lee Smith ran un-opposed to the corner after both the touch judge and the Shambolic Silverwood missed a pass that travelled at least 4 yards forward from Danny Maguire to the winger, needless to say the East Stand let the officials know what they thought, Sinfield missed the conversion but Leeds went in 10-8 up at half time.
It was Hull K.R who dominated the possesion in the second half, on the back of another 80% completion rate. The Rovers pack were again magnificent and bossed the more experienced visitors for large parts of the game, Vella made the hard yards look easy, Aizue ran like a 20 year old and Tangata-toa showed a quality some doubted he had. Both half backs bossed the rest of the team around the field in an astute controlled manor often switching kickers to break the Rhinos concentration.
A much deserved lead was achieved when Luke dyer followed up a Ben Cockayne kick through to touch down and re-take the lead at 12-10 and after the extras were slotted over the lead became 14-10. Morton then knocked over after a Rhinos infringment to make it 16-10.
A top debut was made even better later on when the now rampaging Robins extended the gap again, Byron Ford got to a towering kick first and off loaded in the tackle to a free Andreas Bauer, his pleasure was there for all to see, the extras were added 22-10.
At this stage it was all the Robins until at the 10 minutes to go mark Ashley Gibson went in, again against the run of play unfortunately for the visitors Sinfield just missed the extras. A last minute dubious try, again for Gibson (hat trick) only added to the drama on another nerve filled night at Craven Park.
Rovers though saw out the remaining seconds and recorded their 4th win in 5 games and in truth the scoreline flattered the visitors, it was an extremely dominant second half by the home side and anything other that a victory would have been a travesty.
So in front of 8086 fans K.R again showed the watching world that it means buisness, special praise to the coaching staff who once again came up with and executed the perfect game plan, and to those fans that flocked to watch their heroes, all that remains to be said is....How good was that?
